Role of Government & Individual Liberty *

  • Government exists to protect liberty, not to redistribute wealth, nor to grant special privileges, nor to interfere with the lives of individuals and their actions. The government of a free country, properly speaking, rests not in its elected officials but in its laws.
  • The Constitution is the supreme law of the land. Therefore, transfer of American sovereignty to supranational organizations, even if “benign,” is not permissible without a constitutional amendment.
  • The United States Constitution was written under the principle of “positive grant.” This means the federal government is authorized to exercise only the powers which are specifically given to it by the Constitution, and nothing more.
  • Each individual is fundamentally equal under the law with all other individuals. The rule of law’s framework of liberty ensures the greatest opportunity for individuals to explore their strengths and surmount obstacles.
  • A limited and decentralized government with inherent checks and balances results in more self-rule by local communities, and hence providing local diversity and overall greater satisfaction for individuals. Individuals can always vote with their feet, and move to areas not affected by laws they strongly disagree with.
  • Individuals have the right to live their own lives in whatever manner they choose, so long as they do not forcibly interfere with the equal rights of others.
  • The only legitimate use of force is in defense of individual rights — life, liberty, and justly acquired property — against aggression.
  • Rights belong to individuals, not groups.
  • Rights are not privileges, they are derived from the natural state of being human and are given by our Creator.
  • The Constitution merely acts to forbid the infringement of the federal government upon these rights.
  • The government’s monetary role is to mint money and maintain the integrity of the monetary unit, not to commit fraud by debasement or to substitute counterfeits of paper for the constitutionally-specified forms of lawful money, coins of gold and silver.
  • However, individuals should be free to trade and exchange as money any mutually agreeable commodity or item as they wish.
  • Property should be owned by people, not government.
  • The free market is feared by many who do not understand it. Those who do realize the free market is the most just, most humane economic system, and remains the greatest engine of prosperity and liberty the world has ever known.
  • Freedom is an indivisible whole. It includes not only economic liberties but personal liberties as well.

*The above principles were first published @ townforcongress.com, I believe they are excellent and to the point, which is why I posted them as my founding principles for this blog.

My Principles Expounded

Liberty is a God given Right: Acknowledgment that Liberty is the gift of God. That moral truths of right and wrong are established by our Creator, and liberty in itself cannot be determined as ‘noble’ or ‘right’ without knowledge and acceptance of it being a God given and God defined gift to His creation.

Jesus Christ Is Lord: Acknowledgment of the blessing of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Who is the True God, Creator and Ruler of the Heaven and Earth. That the United States preserves as a country due to his blessing, gifts, power, and pleasure.

Limited Constitutional Government: In order to preserve individual freedom and promote prosperity, the founders of this great nation created a government structure that was strictly limited by the Constitution. Our government must stop treading on the Constitution and massively restructure itself to obey the law as outlined in the Constitution and founding documents.

Rule of Law in the Judiciary: The Judiciary must begin to acknowledge and obey the rule of law. They must have the moral courage to implement the current law as written and interpreted by the original authors and not create law from the bench to fit their own pleasures and desires.

Free Market: A foundation of prosperity and liberty is built on the God given right to private property and the freedom to sell and trade that property in order to live on and enjoy the fruits of one’s labor. The dead hand of government in the United States has greatly distorted this process and has places chains on the free market. In order to increase and maintain our prosperity we must remove these chains and allow the free market to operate.

Truthful & Dependable Currency: The people of this country are consistently and unashamedly being robbed daily by the Federal Reserve Bank’s money creation disaster. The immoral act of increasing the money supply and debasing the currency must be acknowledged and stopped in order to return to a prosperous and saving people. The people’s currency must be dependable and truthful and should be backed by 100% reserve of gold and silver.

Strong Defense: A strong defense is essential to the people’s liberty and freedom. It is one of the foundational acts the federal government should be involved in and fund with taxpayer money. By weakening our defenses in order to provide a more cancerous welfare state is destructive, dangerous, and illogical.

Traditional Family Values: The foundation of any nation or people group is a strong family. A strong family unit will bare each others burdens, provide for each other, instruct each other in Godliness, and preserve the tradition, history, and culture established for them. Without a strong family unit, history has shown us that the principles and culture established cannot sustain and preserve, and will ultimately crumble.

States Rights & Local Government: It is clear from the 10th Amendment of the US Constitution and to the founding documents that our government was based on local and states rights with as much authority and power as federal rights. Anything not found in the Constitution is designated to the States according to the 10th Amendment, and the States have the authority over it. This separation of powers was designed to limit federal government, and place the supreme burden of government on the local and state government. I believe the end result of ingenious actions of the founding fathers is increased personal liberty and happiness to the citizen.

Nation Borrowing & a Balanced Budget: “The borrower is the slave to the lender”. It is an atrocity that our federal government has recently put this nation into a unbalance budget of over 2 trillion dollars, with over 11 trillion dollars in outstanding debt. This is immoral, reckless, and profoundly disastrous for our children’s future. These immoral actions must stop. We as a people cannot continue borrowing from China and other countries to support our unconstitutional nanny state. Call on your congressmen and women to stop this atrocity.

**

“If men through fear, fraud or mistake, should in terms renounce and give up any essential natural right, the eternal law of reason and the great end of society, would absolutely vacate such renunciation; the right to freedom being the gift of God Almighty, it is not in the power of Man to alienate this gift, and voluntarily become a slave.”

–John Adams, Rights of the Colonists, 1772
