You Lie! – Congressman Corrects the President During his Speech

2009 September 9

South Caroline Rep. Joe Wilson just couldn’t stand it anymore… After President Obama stated that illegal immigrants would not be covered under the Democrat plan and that any rejection of this was a lie… Wilson yelled out ‘You Lie!’, obviously ‘The One’ wasn’t pleased. (check out the video below)

I guess the President wasn’t informed of the fact that Nancy Pelosi removed every amendment in HR 3200 that would purposely remove illegals from coverage. Maybe he should get his facts straight before declaring conservatives as liars.

Entertaining to say the least…

Update: McCain criticizes Rep. Wilson for outburst.

Update: Wilson Apologizes

Was it wrong for Rep Wilson to yell “You Lie!”?

In short, I would say No.

On the one hand, the office of the President should be honored and respect should be common place when the President of the United States gives a speech to the country’s representatives. So I do not think this should set a precedent for outbursts from dissenters when a President speaks. (although Democrats sure didn’t mind when Bush spoke)

On the other hand, it is the right of the People to question their President and ensure that the Constitution is honored and followed. It is further the right of the representatives to guard our liberty and point out to the public when out-right lies are being spewed from the office of the President, as were done repeatedly last night. I assume that Rep. Wilson just couldn’t take it anymore when the President continued to call Republicans and Conservatives liars for pointing out the obvious consequences and affects of the Democrat’s bill.

Should have Rep. Wilson taken the high road and said nothing…. maybe.  But an even stronger microscope should be on the President to represent the facts honestly and ethically, which he most certainly did not due last night. (I’m sure the MSM will give him a pass on this as well.)
