Pelosi: Health Care Plan will have a ‘Public’ Option
With all the talk that maybe President Obama and Democrat’s will withdraw in defeat from the ‘public’ option, the message obviously hasn’t reached the House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. Speaking at a health care summit in San Francisco, Pelosi stated confidently, “the plan that passes the House of Representatives will have a public option in it”.
It appears that Nancy Pelosi is adimate to have a government-run plan. In a radio address in San Francisco, Nancy Pelosi stated the following as reported by newsmax.com
But Pelosi won’t compromise on the issue, station KGO-TV in San Francisco reported. “The public option is the best way to keep the insurance companies honest,” she said.
Democratic leaders assert that a public option would ensure that all Americans receive insurance coverage and force private insurers to lower costs due to competition.
Pelosi had said last month that there was “no way” she could pass a bill in the House without a public option.
Hmmmm…Is it showdown time within the Democrat party? Its been reported that President Obama may back away from the ‘public’ option, due to the strong outcries of the America people at town halls across the country… I guess we’ll have to wait and see on this gunfight.
In regards to Pelosi’s comment that the best way to keep the insurance companies honest is through a government plan, I have to disagree strongly. Those in government love to keep free market companies so-called ‘honest’. As if those in government are more fiscally responsible and honest with tax payers money, than corporations are with their own money. Give me a break.
Secondly, the best way to keep any company honest is through competition, as defined by a free market. If Nancy Pelosi wanted to keep corporation’s honest, she would maximize competition and remove government restraints so that the market can operate. No need to force companies to be honest. The consumer will keep the companies honest by choosing those they trust and who offer affordable rates. (The market does ‘honesty’ extremely well.)
The problem is the government, that has added restrictions on how health insurance companies can compete and has bailed out all companies that have acted irresponsibly. By simply allowing health insurance companies to compete across State lines freely without restrictions and bailouts, the price of health care would decrease substantially. Essentially, all 1,300 insurance companies would then compete for ever customer within the US. Just think of how this competition would lower health care costs…
Lesson No. 1 for Nancy Pelosi: If you want ‘honest’, look no further than the free market.
