The Tax Man Cometh – ‘Hope and Poverty’ For the Middle Class!
“You will not see any of your taxes increase one single dime.” ~ President Barack Obama
A recent article by the AP is indicating that 2 high level Obama officials, including Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner, will not rule out a middle class tax hike to help battle the exploding deficit under their current administration. – They caused it, not they have to pay for it!
WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama’s treasury secretary said Sunday he cannot rule out higher taxes to help tame an exploding budget deficit, and his chief economic adviser would not dismiss raising them on middle-class Americans as part of a health care overhaul.
As the White House sought to balance campaign rhetoric with governing, officials appeared willing to extend unemployment benefits. With former Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan saying he is “pretty sure we’ve already seen the bottom” of the recession, Obama aides sought to defend the economic stimulus and calm a jittery public.
Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner and National Economic Council Director Larry Summers both sidestepped questions on Obama’s intentions about taxes. Geithner said the White House was not ready to rule out a tax hike to lower the federal deficit; Summers said Obama’s proposed health care overhaul needs funding from somewhere.
But last I remember, President ‘Hope and Change’ stated he would not raise taxes on the middle class a single dime?!? I guess now that he is elected, he has forgotten such redoric.
Although, President Obama doesn’t need to enact a tax hike on the American people. What the country seems to forget (and the MSM isn’t reporting) is that the Bush tax cuts that lowered taxes on every income level, are set to expire in 2011. It’s already clear that the Democrat’s are not going to extend these tax cuts, so all citizens paying taxes will experience a tax hike, and will be putting more dollars into the government coffers come 2011. – I’m sure they’ll find a way to blame Bush for this mess as well…
Maybe its time for our brilliant leaders to begin examining other options… oh, such as reducing the size of government?!?!
I find it amazing that whenever deficits become the talk of the town, the option of reducing the size of the federal government and cutting spending is never even mentioned. Instead the government leach is always pumped larger and larger, at the expense of the productive taxpayer.
The middle class are going to feel the taxes all right… ‘Hope and Poverty’ here we come – for the middle class that is!
