Shocker! – What’s on page 425 of the Government Health Care Bill!
You won’t believe what’s being reported on page 425 of the Democrat health care bill, that Obama wants to rush through Congress with lightning speed! Now, before I lay it out for you in disturbing detail, I hope your sitting down – or are at least in a calm state of mind.
One of the main aspects of Obamacare is found on page 425 of the government health care bill. Its being reported to read that all medicare patients will be allowed to have ‘end of life’ counseling every 5 years!! This counseling would essentially instruct senior citizens on ways to end their life prematurely! (Yes you read that correctly)
So, let me get this straight… The liberal Democrats are wholeheartedly against having counseling of women who are interested in possibly aborting their unwanted babies, but they are 100% in support of helping the elderly kill themselves. – How noble of them.
Betsy McCaughey, chairman of the Committee to Reduce Infection Deaths and former lieutenant governor of New York state, broke the story on the Fred Thompson show just last week. She claims that the counseling is not just ‘allowed’ but is actually ‘required‘ by those participating in medicare. An article at politifact.com, describes the ‘end-of-life’ counseling…
Betsy McCaughey, chairman of the Committee to Reduce Infection Deaths and former lieutenant governor of New York state, says the bill goes too far to encourage senior citizens to end their lives.
On the radio show of former Sen. Fred Thompson on July 16, 2009, McCaughey said that, “the Congress would make it mandatory — absolutely require — that every five years people in Medicare have a required counseling session that will tell them how to end their life sooner.”
She said those sessions would help the elderly learn how to “decline nutrition, how to decline being hydrated, how to go in to hospice care… all to do what’s in society’s best interest or in your family’s best interest and cut your life short.” …
Medicare will cover one session every five years, the legislation states. If a patient becomes very ill in the interim, Medicare will cover additional sessions.
In her chat with Thompson, McCaughey said the language can be found on page 425 of the health care bill, so we started there. Indeed, Sec. 1233 of the bill, labeled “Advance Care Planning Consultation” details how the bill would, for the first time, require Medicare to cover the cost of end-of-life counseling sessions.
According to the bill, “such consultation shall include the following: An explanation by the practitioner of advance care planning, including key questions and considerations, important steps, and suggested people to talk to; an explanation by the practitioner of advance directives, including living wills and durable powers of attorney, and their uses; an explanation by the practitioner of the role and responsibilities of a health care proxy.”
But there is much disagreement from those who support the Democrat’s bill. They say that the counseling is not intended to be ‘end of life’ counseling and is in no way mandatory. Further, they insist that McCaughey is distorting the truth about the bill…
Jon Keyserling, general counsel and vice president of public policy for the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization, which supports the provision, said the bill doesn’t encourage seniors to end their lives, it just allows some important counseling for decisions that take time and consideration.
“These are very serious conversations,” he said. “It needs to be an informative conversation from the medical side and it needs to be thought about carefully by the patient and their families.”
In no way would these sessions be designed to encourage patients to end their lives, said Jim Dau, national spokeman for AARP, a group that represents people over 50 years of age and that has lobbied in support of the advanced planning provision.
McCaughey’s comments are “not just wrong, they are cruel,” said Dau. “We want to make sure people are making the right decision. If some one wants to take every life saving measure, that’s their call. Others will decide it’s not worth going through this trauma just for themselves and their families, and that’s their decision, too.”
Both Keyserling and Dau were particularly troubled that McCaughey insisted – three times, to be exact – that the sessions would be mandatory, which they are not.
For his part, Keyserling said he and outside counsel read the language carefully to make sure that was not the case.
“Neither of us can come to the conclusion that it’s mandatory.” he said. “This new consultation is just like all in Medicare: it’s voluntary.”
“The only thing mandatory is that Medicare will have to pay for the counseling,” said Dau.
I personally have not read page 425 in the health care bill to know if Betsy McCaughey is distorting the truth or is representing the facts honestly. But one thing is for sure, there are aspects of this bill that the American people have no knowledge, and would greatly resist if they were made aware of. This alone, should make our leaders pause…
How can our politicians, who are in their positions to due what is best for the people of this great nation, pass a 1000 page bill that they have not read? How can they even consider supporting a bill that would remove 1/6th of our economy from the private sector and place it into the government sector, without even knowing what is in the bill! Why would a ’so-called’ Ethical President push for it to pass without the public knowing and understanding all aspects and consequences of government run health care!
It is clear that corruption is going on, otherwise this bill would be fully explained to the public!
It is my belief that this bill is not about health care, or helping those in need, but it is about power. The power to control the people and make them dependent on the State. If the people are dependent on the State, then they are essentially slaves – void of all Liberty and Freedom.
Let us always remember the words of George Washington, and the true nature of government!
“Government is not reason; it is not eloquence. It is force. And force, like fire, is a dangerous servant and a fearful master.” George Washington
Listen to the radio program below…

To think that President Obama wanted these idiots to pass the bill so he could sign it before the August break just re-iterates that everything else he has done… including tanking the productive sections of our economy, transferring power and money to Union control, appointing czars that are admitted communists, socialist, past anarchists, cutting the balls off the CIA through his A.G., and other such things IS part of a larger plan. In my humble opinion he is trying to “fundamentally change America” from a representative constitutional republic into a true democracy…. mob rule where the majority keeps voting politicians in that support them at the expense of the producers. Look at Massachusetts for the model. Check it out. There’s absolutely no checks and balances… all Democrats, all entrenched politicians who continually will get voted into office because they vote for money to go to friends, who in turn give them money so they get voted into office. Taxpayers in Massachusetts are dogs to be used, abused, legislated against, controlled, and in most instances ignored. They couldn’t care less, they’re in forever. Small populated areas with special interests dictate what takes place to the rest of the state. That’s what’s going on now on the Federal level.
Exactly Dave, I agree 100% with everything you wrote down. There is absolutely an agenda by the left wing to remake America to fit their world view, which is essentially socialist in nature… This view is essentially a world where the government runs everything with no checks or balances and the people’s individual liberty is an afterthought, if thought about at all. That you for contributing.
Cheers,
Jason
I have read the information you are discussing and it will be mandantory. Further, if the person is considered to have serious illness they will be required to attend additional meetings sooner than the five year requirement.
Did I hear correctly that the bill also contains Affirmative Action for medical school entrance? So it doesn’t matter how well you score on the MCAT, its what COLOR your SKIN is that REALLY matters. Wow.
Kim,
I’m not aware of this aspect, but I will investigate…
Cheers,
Jason
I would like my representativea and senators to actually read the health care bill before voting. I have always thought that I would not spend thousands of dollars to keep alive for a short time. However, I’ve “known” it would be my choice or the choice of my designated advisors. This is a right that I don’t want taken away!
I agree Sandra… The arrogance of our leaders is amazing to me. To think of the responsibility handed to them by the American people, and they don’t even take the effort to read and understand the bills that will effect 300 million people and their posterity. It makes me want to vomit.
