Surprise! – Government Health Care Bill Contains Billions of Wasteful Spending!

The Boston Globe is reporting today that billions of government wasteful spending is included in the massive government health care bill that is being pushed on the American people by the liberal Democrat’s in Congress. Although, I don’t find this surprising knowing the history of our great ethical leaders, I do find it severely disturbing that in the midst of such massive government debt, and the addition of a possible 1.6 trillion dollar health care bill, they would stuff the bill full of wasteful pork.

Some of the wasteful spending included in the bill is listed below. I hope your sitting down, as some of these spending proposals are outrageous…

• Billions to build walking paths
• Billions for Street Lights
• Billions for Jungle Gyms
• Billions for Farmer’s Markets
• Unspecified Amount for Infrastructure Projects

Many of the left wing Democrats are supporting these measures with the opinion that these projects will increase the overall health of American’s and thus lower the costs… (Yeah Right! I’m sure billions in street lights will lower obesity! – Give me a break already!) Below is an excerpt from the article in the Boston Globe…

Critics argue the provision is a thinly disguised effort to insert pork-barrel spending into a bill that has been widely portrayed to the public as dealing with expanding health coverage and cutting medical costs. A leading critic, Senator Mike Enzi, a Wyoming Republican, ridicules the local projects, asking: “How can Democrats justify the wasteful spending in this bill?’’

But advocates, including Senator Edward M. Kennedy of Massachusetts, defend the proposed spending as a necessary way to promote healthier lives and, in the long run, cut medical costs. “These are not public works grants; they are community transformation grants,’’ said Anthony Coley, a spokesman for Kennedy, chairman of the Senate health committee whose healthcare bill includes the projects.

The real truth is that many of these measures are political payback to those who keep these individuals in power. It doesn’t seem to matter if this government backrupts the country and leaves our children with nothing but massive government debt, at least they’ll have great lighting and jungle gyms on the backs of the hard working taxpayers. It sure seems to be getting ridiculous when our national debt is already at 11 trillion and growing. (Am I the only one who feels this way?)

What America needs is responsible members in Congress. Those who value morals and actually care for the American people, not just staying in power. (It would be no surprise if this bill is never read!)

Politicians with principles, who can find? Will we ever see a true conservative leader, who stands on principles once again?
