School Choice: More Proof Government Run Education is a Disaster
Does our Federal Government want to run the school systems from Washington to indoctrinate our children with left wing propaganda and essentially keep them dumb and stupid? (…dumb and stupid generally become slaves to those in power) I don’t know the answer to this question, but government run education is by far doing a terrible job of teaching our children the basic principles of American History, Math, Science, English, etc. If you don’t believe me, a recent article from the libertymaven.com reports a survey taken by the Goldwater Institute of over 1,100 public high school students in Arizona on the basics of the US Government… Can you believe that not a single one could answer all questions correctly? Unbelievable!
Can you answer the following questions?
1. What is the supreme law of the land?
2. What do we call the first ten amendments to the Constitution?
3. What are the two parts of the U.S. Congress?
4. How many Justices are on the Supreme Court?
5. Who wrote the Declaration of Independence?
6. What ocean is on the East Coast of the United States?
7. What are the two major political parties in the United States?
8. We elect a U.S. Senator for how many years?
9. Who was the first President of the United States?
10. Who is in charge of the executive branch?
Hopefully you can answer most (if not all) of these basic questions correctly. But these questions were presented to 1,134 [public] high school students in Arizona, and not a single one could answer more than seven out of ten correctly.
The biggest shocker (for me) is that more than 73% couldn’t name George Washington as our first president.
Wow. What more proof do we need that public schools have failed?
Just more evidence that we need school choice in this country… I still find it amazing that people would disagree with this suggestion and not even debate it. School choice is nothing more than using your own private property to send your own child to the school you desire. It would provide a number of excellent outcomes…
- Competition in School Districts providing better Education
- Removal of Centralized Government Control
- Parents can better decide what their children learn and how they are educated
- Better education of the poor and those in low income areas
- Competition among teachers so that the best teachers rise to the top.
The list is endless, but men in Washington don’t want to hear it… Any guess why? Could it be that it removes their influence on the public school system, thus the American people, instead of government, can determine the education of their children? A scary thing for men who desire power; but the very best for our posterity. As conservatives, let’s rise up and demand the best education for our children. Call your representative today.
“Educate and inform the whole mass of the people… They are the only sure reliance for the preservation of our liberty.” ~Thomas Jefferson
