President Obama supports Tyrants and Dictators!

honduras flag 300x150 President Obama supports Tyrants and Dictators! In an amazing development over the last few days, the President of Honduras, Mel Zelaya, attempted to set himself up as a dictator by ignoring his Honduran Constitution and attempting to run for a 3rd term in office. (a violation of rule of law in that country) No doubt he was encouraged by his friend Hugo Chavez in Venezuela, and our lame duck President and Secretary of State.

Well fortunately for Honduras, the people were not going to sit down for such tyranny and the Supreme Court of Honduras ordered the military to forcefully remove the president from office so that he could not run for a 3rd term and successfully take over the country. An excerpt from the Wall Street Journal this morning explains the coup and the rule of law behind it…

That Mr. Zelaya acted as if he were above the law, there is no doubt. While Honduran law allows for a constitutional rewrite, the power to open that door does not lie with the president. A constituent assembly can only be called through a national referendum approved by its Congress.

But Mr. Zelaya declared the vote on his own and had Mr. Chávez ship him the necessary ballots from Venezuela. The Supreme Court ruled his referendum unconstitutional, and it instructed the military not to carry out the logistics of the vote as it normally would do.

The top military commander, Gen. Romeo Vásquez Velásquez, told the president that he would have to comply. Mr. Zelaya promptly fired him. The Supreme Court ordered him reinstated. Mr. Zelaya refused.

Calculating that some critical mass of Hondurans would take his side, the president decided he would run the referendum himself. So on Thursday he led a mob that broke into the military installation where the ballots from Venezuela were being stored and then had his supporters distribute them in defiance of the Supreme Court’s order.

The attorney general had already made clear that the referendum was illegal, and he further announced that he would prosecute anyone involved in carrying it out. Yesterday, Mr. Zelaya was arrested by the military and is now in exile in Costa Rica.

Now for any thinking conservative, this is not amazing at all… In fact the very nature of government encourages men to take more power than authorized and to even set themselves up as Dictators. (We see this in Iran, Venezuela, Cuba, etc…) This is the reason for a limited constitutional government and the rule of law in the first place. (If your a liberal and understand this fact, you are well on your way to being a conservative.) Government by it’s nature must be restrained in order to maintain freedom and prosperity for the people. Without this restraint the only eventual outcome is tyranny… with no escape from this oppression without the horror of war to reinstate it.

What is amazing to me is that our own President and Secretary of State have sided with the Dictators and Tyrants and have not supported the people of Honduras or the Supreme Court, but the Dictator President who has violated the rule of law in his country. To be blunt, this is a disgrace! It is clear that our liberal executive branch has shown it’s true colors. That they love power and big government so much; they would even support the tyranny in other countries… Sad.
