Gov. Mark Sanford – No Character, No Principles?

Mark_Sanford,_Congressional_photoUnless you have been living in a cave, you now know that Gov. Mark Sanford of South Carolina has admitted to an affair in Argentina. Sanford has shamed his wife, 4 sons, State, staff and Republican party. No excuses should be brought up by the party, no blame spread around. Conservatives should stand up and admit that Sanford was wrong and has disgraced himself. If Republicans want to come out of this as the party of principles, they need to respond to this media mess as men and women of character and display those principles to the public.

Conservative thought is a system of principles and values.  We need men and women who are committed to these principles, and have the moral character to express them to the citizens in their private life and public life. That means keeping your promises to your family and your constituents. Although this is a blow to the Republican party, they have an opportunity to display character and principles in light of this situation and reinforce the principles of liberty.

Is Sanford’s career over?

My prayer is that Gov. Sanford can reconcile with his wife and children, and return to a loving family relationship with commitment and faithfulness. This should be his number one goal. The question then relys on his commitment to his oath of office, and the voters of South Carolina.
